Joyous Color: Veneer Sampler

Lindly Haunani

Three-day color centric polymer workshop

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner- Experienced Artist

Join Lindly Haunani for a joyful exploration of color.

During this class you will –

Increase your color mixing agility

Learn to embrace fluorescents when mixing colors

Perfect your skills when combining colored patterns

Master the art and finesse of creating bright, vibrant color schemes using custom mixing primaries spiced up with fluorescents. If you prefer making a more restrained color scheme, Lindly will walk you through that option. Five useful strategies to enhance harmony will be presented as you prepare a set of colors destined to become a set of coordinating veneers.

Experience the magic of creating the illusion of glow in your veneers by combining two ombre blend stripe sheets while making your veneer patterns. There will be dozens of illustrative color samples on display and plenty of time for individual attention while you make your color choices.

Six new veneer patterns inspired by a glorious summer flower garden will be presented during this workshop including: nestled gladiola petals, a tessellated interlocking cane, a fun plaid and color blend checkerboards. Lindly will walk you through her behind the scenes thought processes that she uses when designing new veneers. Experience the excitement and joy of designing your own polymer fabric inspired patterns.

In this three- day workshop you will be making a polymer quilt wall hanging based upon a disappearing nine –patch. Learn how to sequence and audition your elements to create a harmonious balance in your design while using multiple elements. At the end of the session we will brainstorm as a group on how to incorporate what you have learned in your future projects: including scaling things for jewelry design, incorporating veneers into sculptures and ideas for exploring designing new patterns.

Join Lindly Haunani, a nationally recognized colorist for a fun and illuminating three- day workshop. While you may know just what colors you like, and exactly how to mix them, using them in harmonious combinations can be challenging. Learn how to add impact to your polymer clay work with increased color confidence and agility.

Note: Polyform Products will be providing all of the Premo you will need to complete the workshop project.

Master Workshop: Color week 2019- Maggie Maggio and Lindly Haunani

Monday July 8th– Saturday July 13th, 2019

Skill Level =Confident beginner –to advanced artist. Note: This is not an introductory workshop; participants are expected to be familiar with basic polymer skills including how to make a Skinner blend.

Join Maggie Maggio and Lindly Haunani, for a very special, colorful, inspirational six -day studio workshop in Portland, Oregon. For the first time in over a decade they will be team teaching together, in honor of the tenth anniversary of the publication of their collaborative book; Polymer Clay Color Inspirations.

Have fun while learning how to select, design and mix a color palette that makes your heart sing. This week will include: step by step demonstrations, group discussions, individualized consultations, open studio time and several short field trips (to enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Portland, Oregon).

Maggie and Lindly will share their insights gleaned from years of teaching color-centric workshops. The week will begin with you making an intuitive color collage reflective of your personal color preferences. Strategies for mixing for color harmony, orchestrating value and saturation contrasts and designing color schemes will be presented. Make several useful studio tools you can take home for reference.

Experience the joy of combining a series color co-coordinated veneers into collaged compositions. Maggie will guide you while you make a series of veneers based on her signature Color washing techniques. Lindly will then share a series of textile inspired pattern veneer. Once you have your library of polymer veneers in place to choose from; you will learn how audition possible color combinations, balance different scales and proportions, include the unexpected color (or not?) while creating a successful color composition. You will be encouraged to complete a project during this workshop: your choice = a series of brooches or a covered box or frame (specific details will be included in the class supply list).

Come with an open mind, your two magical hands and your sense of humor. Leave with an enhanced understanding of the possibilities when working confidently with color.

Polyform Products will generously be providing the Premo polymer you will need to complete the exercises and projects during this workshop. Register early, as class size is limited to allow for lots of individual attention.

Tuesday February 20th and Wednesday February 21st, 2018

Skill Level: Confident beginner to advanced polymer artist

$220 – payable via check or Pay Pal -here  for more information please contact Lindly at LindlyH@aol.com

Are you ready to immerse yourself in the glorious world of color and design for two days? Discover and expand your creative potential with increased color confidence.

During this class you will . . .

Expand your color awareness

Refresh your knowledge about color

Perfect your skills when combining colors

Using simple strip quilt block patterns as inspiration you will make a dramatic decorative wall hanging tile. Learn how to refine your color choices while selecting pigment primaries, mixing colors, and constructing Skinner blends. See how balance, placement and proportion all play key roles while designing your quilt block pattern.

There will be dozens of illustrative color samples on display and plenty of time for individual attention while you make your color choices.

You will create a color-coordinated palette of gradient blends that will be used to make your stripe elements. Once cut, your elements will be puzzled together to form a geometric quilt block pattern. You will have ample “yardage” of blends to experiment with and may opt to concentrate on one combination or try several.

During this workshop you will be using laminates for your designs. Strategies for translating what you have learned into canes, more painterly surface designs and sculptural elements will be discussed. Samples illustrating how the patterns read at a smaller scale suitable for jewelry design will also be presented.

You will be encouraged to take at least one quilt block panel to completion, ready for hanging in your home during class.

You will learn about the art of designing and mixing a coordinated color palette using translucent polymer. Learn the parameters of proportion for tinting and strategies for increasing (and decreasing) the vibrancy of your colors. You will be able to choose between four different color palettes: Vibrant Spring, Lush Summer, Sophisticated Fall or Brilliant Jewel Winter in a range of intensities.  Samples of several options to enhance the outline of your cane with pearl and/or embossing powders will be on display to aid in your choices.Have you been longing to return to the joy of childlike play, without self-consciousness and predetermined notions of skill and perfection?  With Lindly’s guidance (and samples) you will encouraged to playfully experiment with edges, scale and shape shifting to create your own unique interlocking bead designs.

Lindly will guide you, step by step, as you make a rainbow roll cane that will feature a translucent clay blend with a semi-opaque outline.. Then you will discover how a simple cane slice can be transformed by manipulating the edges, folding, stretching or texturing and then possibly combined with other shapes to create dynamic volume to make your bracelet uniquely your own.
